16-Year-Old Kamsiyochukwu, Highest Scorer in 2023 UTME, Reveals her Strategy
Deeper Life High School management celebrated their students who achieved outstanding scores above 300 in the recently concluded 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Among the top scorers was 16-year-old Miss Umeh, Kamsiyochukwu Nkechinyere, who emerged as the highest achiever with an exceptional mark of 360 in the UTME.
In an interview with journalists, Miss Kamsiyochukwu shared her strategy for achieving such remarkable results. She explained that upon returning home, she primarily focused on revising past questions using the study materials she had. Her parents played a vital role in supporting and encouraging her to study, consistently emphasizing the importance of reading.
Expressing her excitement, Kamsiyochukwu mentioned that it was her first UTME, and she is also eagerly awaiting her West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results, as she took that exam this year as well. She has already applied to the University of Lagos, where she aspires to study Chemical Engineering. While she did not set out to become the highest scorer, she acknowledged that everyone strives to be the best and expressed her gratitude to all her supporters and encouragers.
Mrs. Umeh, Kamsiyochukwu’s mother, also shared her thoughts on her daughter’s remarkable achievement. She highlighted Kamsiyochukwu’s consistent excellence, dating back to her primary school days at the University of Lagos Women Society College Nursery and Primary School. Mrs. Umeh expressed her belief in a holistic approach to a child’s success, not solely focusing on academics. She ensured that Kamsiyochukwu was involved in household chores and developed diverse skills. Mrs. Umeh emphasized the importance of a well-rounded development, where a child is capable in all areas, including academics, cooking, and handling various tasks. She mentioned her desire for her daughter to leave home for university, knowing that she would continue to support her well-rounded growth.
According to Mrs. Umeh, Kamsiyochukwu’s passion has always been reading. Even in primary school, she was engrossed in novels and had a particular fondness for literature. At home, Kamsiyochukwu would immerse herself in novels, using her phone to indulge in her love for literature. Mrs. Umeh recalled an incident when Kamsiyochukwu’s primary 2 teacher invited her because she was reading in class while the teacher was teaching. This passion for literature even influenced Kamsiyochukwu’s consideration of pursuing arts at one point.
Kamsiyochukwu’s parents’ unwavering support and her determination to excel have undoubtedly contributed to her outstanding performance. As she embarks on her journey towards studying Chemical Engineering, Kamsiyochukwu serves as an inspiration to other young students who aspire to reach great heights academically and beyond.
