Tyrese Gibson Faces Backlash Over Unpaid Child Support

Written by on September 10, 2024

Tyrese Gibson has found himself in legal trouble once again, this time for failing to pay child support. The singer and actor, who shares a 5-year-old daughter named Soraya with his ex-wife Samantha Lee, was recently held in contempt of court for not meeting his child support obligations.

Tyrese appeared in Fulton County court on Monday morning to face the judge over his ongoing child support case.

The situation quickly escalated when Judge Kevin Farmer grew frustrated with Tyrese’s failure to pay the $10,690 a month he had been ordered to pay starting in April 2023. The judge held Tyrese in contempt, and he was handcuffed and escorted out of the courtroom by a bailiff.

Tyrese was given a chance to avoid jail time by paying $73,000, which included $7,500 for Samantha’s attorney fees. However, he was released from custody the same day after his attorney, Tanya Mitchell Graham, filed an appeal of the judge’s ruling.

Reports indicate that Tyrese did not have to pay the full $73K before his release. The payment has just been postponed for now, similar to the legal manoeuvring he and his lawyer used last year.

Tyrese has been vocal about his situation on social media, calling Samantha’s legal actions “goofy” and insisting he’s innocent.

He argues that the 2020 prenup should cover everything and questions why Samantha’s lawyers didn’t review his bank statements. He claims they only looked at his film credits and saw dollar signs.

Tyrese has been paying about $2,200 a month, but this amount falls short of the judge’s requirement. Tyrese and Judge Farmer have had their share of disputes over the years, including a heated exchange in 2022.

Currently, Tyrese is working on arranging the $73,000 payment, so it seems he may not stay in custody for too much longer. The situation remains fluid, and Tyrese’s next steps will be closely watched as he continues to navigate this legal challenge.
