LADIPOE has opened up about the long creative journey behind his latest album, REVIVAL, explaining why the years between major projects played an important role in shaping the artist he wanted to become.
For the Mavin Records rapper, the wait represented much more than time away from releasing a full-length album. Instead, LADIPOE used the period to grow personally, professionally and creatively before bringing REVIVAL to life.
LADIPOE released his debut album, Talk About Poe (T.A.P), in 2018, followed by the Providence EP in 2021. He eventually returned with REVIVAL in 2026, marking a significant new chapter in his career.
According to LADIPOE, the years between these projects gave him room to experience life differently. Consequently, those experiences influenced how he approached music, creativity, and his identity as an artist.
Over the years, LADIPOE took on new responsibilities and encountered experiences that reshaped his outlook. Furthermore, he learned to approach album-making differently and became more comfortable with the creative process.
Rather than allowing perfectionism to control his work, he began to trust his instincts and accept the lessons that came with growth.
As a result, REVIVAL became more than another collection of songs. It became a reflection of the person LADIPOE had grown into.
The title REVIVAL carries a personal meaning for LADIPOE. Interestingly, the word first appeared as the title of the closing track on his 2018 debut album, Talk About Poe.
However, its meaning developed as his life and career progressed.
LADIPOE describes revival as the process of recognising what already exists within you. In other words, the album encourages people to rediscover their identity, acknowledge their abilities and reconnect with the qualities that make them unique.
More importantly, LADIPOE does not see himself as the only person experiencing a revival.
Through the album, he encourages listeners to recognise that they can also become leaders of their own transformation. Therefore, the project carries a message that extends beyond music and into personal identity, confidence and purpose.
Beyond his personal story, LADIPOE also uses REVIVAL to explore African excellence, identity and authenticity.
The album brings together collaborators from Nigeria, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. Meanwhile, LADIPOE continues to emphasise the importance of African artists remaining connected to their identity as they reach international audiences.
For him, global recognition should not require artists to abandon the stories, experiences and sounds that shaped them.
LADIPOE’s approach reflects a wider conversation within African music. As Afrobeats and African hip-hop continue to reach new audiences, artists increasingly face the challenge of maintaining authenticity while operating on a global stage.
Consequently, REVIVAL presents LADIPOE’s answer to that challenge. He embraces growth while remaining connected to the person and artist he has always been.
Following the release of REVIVAL, LADIPOE remains focused on taking the project beyond Nigeria and introducing its message to more listeners around the world.
At the same time, he plans to continue exploring his artistry while surrounding himself with the right creative and business partners.
Ultimately, REVIVAL represents a new chapter for LADIPOE. More than a comeback, the album documents years of learning, personal development and creative discovery.
For fans who have followed his journey since Talk About Poe, the project offers a closer look at how LADIPOE transformed years of experience into a body of work that reflects who he is today.
