Nollywood actor Adekola Tijani recently shared a poignant encounter with his late colleague and friend, Murphy Afolabi, shedding light on their final conversation prior to Afolabi’s tragic passing.
During Murphy’s memorial service held in Ikorodu, Adekola Tijani spoke to Goldmynetv, reflecting on Murphy’s humble lifestyle and the deep affection he had earned from many within the industry.
Tijani recounted that he had spoken with Murphy a mere thirty minutes before his unexpected demise. The exchange of words during their conversation hinted at Murphy’s unsettling premonition about his own fate.
According to Tijani, Murphy had sent his weekly thrift contribution earlier than usual, which caught his attention. When questioned about it, Murphy replied with a cryptic response, suggesting that one can never predict when their time in this world will come to an end.
Moreover, during their discussion, Murphy had requested that Adekola collect some clothes he had worn for his birthday photoshoot, assuring him that he would arrange it later. Little did Adekola know that Murphy was sending a subtle message.
Speaking in Yoruba, Adekola emotionally expressed, “When he was alive, he always wanted us to do things together. We can’t question God, but I’m truly moved. He was still young, and we started together. I directed his debut movie, and he was the first person to recognize my acting skills. We’ve shared countless experiences, had our differences, and reconciled. I know everything about him. We spoke just yesterday; around 9:30, and he fell around 10 a.m.”
He continued, “I was immediately informed, and we rushed him to the hospital, but he passed away before we could reach there. After his birthday, he called me and asked me to collect some clothes he used for his birthday shoot. I told him not to worry, unaware that he was bidding me farewell.”
“Yesterday, he sent money for our regular Sunday contribution. He sent it earlier than usual, and I questioned his decision. His response was that we never know what will happen the next day or even in the next minute. Little did I know he was saying goodbye.”
The talented actor, Murphy Afolabi, tragically passed away on Sunday, May 14, following a fall in his bathroom in Lagos. His funeral took place on Monday evening, May 16, where he was laid to rest.
