Mohbad passes away at 27.
On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, it was reported that the songwriter visited the hospital to treat an infection but eventually passed away.
The news of his demise was reported by his management yesterday the 13th of September 2023.
The news was shared via Mohbad’s X account.
It read: “With great sadness we confirm the passing of Promise Oladmeji Aloba aka Mohbad today , the 12th of September 2023.”
The death of the rising star has sparked several reactions as it was shows that that singer had battled a lot of issues with his former record label, Marlian Records.
Mohbad joined Marlian Record in 2019 and he gained popularity with his hit Ko Po Ke which he released in 2020. However, the singer left the label in 2022 due to several violence issues with Naira Marley, Marlian Record.
In a statement issued on his behalf, his legal team claimed that Mohbad’s departure was due to the persistent attacks he endured, which were reportedly coordinated by Naira Marley.
As a result of his death, a video as surfaced on the internet which revealed that the late singer once battled mental issues earlier this year.
Bella Shmurda’s Revelation
In January, Nigerian singer and songwriter Abiola Akinbiyi, popularly known as Bella Shmurda, revealed a time Mohbad attempted suicide
He said, “I don’t have to say this, but I’ll say it. There was a point where me and Mohbad we were in an apartment. Mohbad wanted to jump from the upstairs because of this label issue.”
Narrating the incident, he said they stopped Mohbad from the act after his girlfriend discovered him sitting by the window.
“Something wey fit makes you think you can take your own life. Now, e happen, you go dey write RIP. We loved him.”
“No, there is no love there, and none would speak up. Them dey inside that place. None of them won look anybody’s eye,” Shmurda wrote.
He also disclosed that Mohbad was visiting the hospital to treat hypertension, saying, “Why? Because say you dey label. It can’t continue. Someone has to talk.”
Many musician and celebrities send out their grief for the loss on their social media.
CEO YBNL, Olamide shared on his X account an heartbreaking emoji to express his sorrow on Mohbad’s death.

In 2019, The Nigerian rapper released his debut EP titled “Light” which featured the Nigerian artists ; Lili Kesh, Davido and Naira Marley
The Song writer is known for monster hits such as Ponmo, Peace, Feel Good and also his monster hit Ko Po Ke which was nominated 3 times for the Headies Award in 2022.
Also, his songs were nominated 5 times in the Beatz Award in 2021.
Mohbad’s music had tremendous impact on the Nigeria music industry in the short time of his ascending prominence.
