During an exclusive interview with WakeUp Nigeria on TVC, the talented “Masarati” crooner, Olakira, bared his soul as he opened up about a significant turning point in his life. With candor and vulnerability, he revealed a part of his past that shaped his musical journey.
In his earlier days, Olakira was a passionate gospel musician, singing with fervor and devotion in the church. However, life took an unexpected turn when he found himself entangled in an experience with some ladies from the church choir. Regrettably, this indiscretion led to his expulsion from the religious institution, bringing an end to his gospel music endeavors.
Olakira, now a 32-year-old music producer, recounted the difficult period during the interview. He shared that his involvement with about four female choristers resulted in his dismissal from the church. This unforeseen consequence left a profound impact on him and marked a significant shift in the direction of his musical career.
“I was a gospel artiste some years back. And I had some experience with ladies. I was in the choir and I had stuff with about four choristers and I was sacked from the church. You know when you sing in church and you are playing keyboard people get inspired. And, when I came into the secular world, the whole thing was just crowded. It was a lot. I went for therapy. I needed to get out of that space because it was very distracting.”
He added; “I was raised by a single mother. So, I feel more comfortable around ladies than guys.”Advertisement
The transition from a gospel singer to a secular artist was not without its challenges. As Olakira faced the aftermath of his expulsion, he found himself battling depression, grappling with the weight of his actions and their consequences.
Recognizing the importance of seeking help, he decided to undergo therapy to navigate through this difficult period and emerge stronger from the experience.
Through this trying phase, Olakira learned valuable lessons about accountability, self-reflection, and the resilience of the human spirit. Despite the setbacks, he channeled his emotions and experiences into his music, using it as a form of expression and healing.
In the interview, Olakira’s honesty serves as a reminder that mistakes and setbacks do not define a person but can be stepping stones toward self-discovery and personal evolution.
Now, with his chart-topping hits and musical prowess, Olakira has embraced his path as a renowned artist, captivating audiences with his soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics.
