Fire incident at Ooni of Ife’s Palace Raises Questions

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, is in the news again, but this time, it is not for a good reason. The Ife monarch has had an unfortunate incident in his palace as a building apartment was razed down by fire on Friday, April 28.

According to reports, the courtyard of the palace was engulfed in flames around 11:30 pm, shortly after electrical appliances in the affected apartment exploded. The Palace Spokesperson, Moses Olafare, stated that the inferno was triggered by a power surge and was later brought under control.

Fortunately, no causality was recorded, and cultural items were not lost during the incident. However, many people have expressed concern over the wives and members of the palace.

While some people sympathized with the Ooni and expressed their relief that everyone was safe, others tried to apportion blame for the fire. One netizen, Annie Alis, questioned whether the fire incident was related to the Ooni’s recent call-out of Tinubu.

Although, we don’t know what exactly the netizen is talking about concerning Tinubu as Ooni of Ife is proudly a fan of the president-elect.

One Adaure Adabekee wrote, “The same power surge got most of my appliances destroyed. All I ask God is to keep protecting us from seen and unseen battles

One Ama Graan wrote, “Hope all the wives are safe

One Adaugo Homes wrote, “Thank God everyone is fine that’s the most important thing

One Akanni Via wrote, “Another cash-out loading

One Ann featu world wrote, “The gods are 😠 what kind of power surges is dis? Hmmmm”.

One Omobukola Ladipo wrote, “Ike Oba to jo ewa lo busi. A palace that got burnt will become more beautiful”.

Ooni of Ife donates 100 hectares of land to Nigeria Peace Corps for training school

In a recent development, the Ooni of Ife has donated 100 hectares of land to the Nigeria Peace Corps (NPC) for the construction of the South-West Zonal Training School. The monarch made this donation during a familiarisation visit by the Corps’ Commandant General, Dr. Mustapha Abubakar, on Friday, April 28.

According to the Ooni, the land is located along Ilesa Road, Abayagani, Ile-Ife. He noted that the role of the Nigeria Peace Corps nationwide is essential, particularly with the rising insecurity in the country, such as kidnapping and banditry.

The Ooni emphasized that the NPC must continue to demonstrate commitment to making society safe and peaceful for citizens to live and stay. He also thanked the corps for making him a grand patron and pledged not to let them down in all areas where his attention is needed.

In conclusion, while the fire incident at the Ooni’s palace is an unfortunate event, it is good to know that no one was hurt, and cultural artifacts were not destroyed. It is also commendable that the Ooni has donated land for the construction of a training school for the Nigeria Peace Corps to combat the rising insecurity in the country.
