The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman, identified as Anulika Onyeanusia, over an alleged case of child abuse following the circulation of a disturbing video involving a minor.
The police spokesperson in the state, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement. According to Ikenga, police operatives acted after receiving information through open-source intelligence and arrested the suspect on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
The operation also led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine. In addition, the police recovered sex toys and other items which investigators believe could assist the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, investigators have continued to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence. As part of that process, the police have kept the suspect in custody while they work to establish what happened and determine whether other individuals were involved.
Ikenga also disclosed that the suspect’s husband is undergoing interrogation. Consequently, investigators are examining whether he had any connection to the alleged incident.
Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Oji Ama, directed officers to conduct a thorough and professional investigation. He also ordered the command to ensure that authorities provide the rescued children with appropriate care and protection.
Because the case involves minors, the police said they would protect the children’s identities and privacy throughout the investigation. In addition, the command said relevant child protection and support agencies would assist with their welfare, counselling and other necessary support.
The police also acknowledged the role of vigilante operatives, bloggers and members of the public whose information, according to the command, helped investigators identify and arrest the suspect.
However, the police have not concluded their investigation. Therefore, authorities will need to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse before determining the next legal steps.
At the same time, the allegations against Onyeanusia remain allegations, and she has not been convicted of any offence. The police will now focus on gathering evidence, interviewing relevant individuals and determining whether anyone else contributed to the alleged incident.
For now, the immediate priority remains the protection and welfare of the four rescued children. Meanwhile, investigators are expected to continue their work as the case progresses.
