Simi Opens Up on How She Avoided Heartbreak Before Marriage—”I” Just Walk Away”
Nigerian music star and Afro-pop queen Simi is getting real about love, relationships, and her powerful approach to emotional wellness.

In a new candid interview with media personality VJ Adams, the Duduke hitmaker revealed she has never experienced heartbreak — and she credited it to a mindset that’s both empowering and relatable.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been heartbroken, but I’ve been hurt before,” Simi shared. “I probably broke someone’s heart though!” 😅
Before tying the knot with fellow music star Adekunle Gold, Simi said she mastered the art of walking away when things no longer served her emotionally.
“If I feel like something isn’t good for me, the way my brain is wired is to walk away from it,” she explained. “I never wanted to be with someone who stayed with me out of pity. I’d rather leave and feel bad for a while than stay in a situation that makes me feel less.”
The Afrobeats songstress also revealed that this mindset doesn’t only apply to romantic relationships — it’s her rule for friendships too.
“Even in friendships, if I feel unsafe or anxious, I’m ready to cut it off. I’ve learned that anyone can hurt you, even the people you love. So, I protect my peace at all costs.”
Simi’s honesty resonates with fans who admire her self-respect and focus on mental health in relationships.
