The “Unavailable” hitmaker, Davido opened up about how fame, success, and his background have shaped his journey in music.

“I’m the most criticized artist in Nigeria, People didn’t know my dad was rich at first. By the time they found out, I already had three hit songs. It was too late.” Davido

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, is the son of billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke. Despite his privileged background, he says music was always his passion.

“I didn’t care about money. I didn’t mind going broke. I just wanted to make music. That’s all I cared about,” he explained.

He believes the hate grew stronger as he became more successful. But instead of letting it get to him, he kept focusing on his music.

“They started hating me because my dad is rich. But I kept dropping hits and it kept working,” he said.

Davido compared his experience to that of public figures who face growing criticism as they rise to the top.

“It’s like politics,” he said. “People love you when you’re running. But when you win, they hate you.”

Despite the backlash, Davido remains one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports. With millions of fans, global tours, and chart-topping hits, he continues to prove that talent speaks louder than hate.
