Burna Boy Blasts Critics After Burkina Faso Reportedly Rejects His Free Concert Offer
Burna Boy has fired back at online critics after reports claimed that Burkina Faso’s president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, turned down his offer to perform a free concert for citizens of the West African nation.

Last week, social media reports revealed that the Grammy-winning Nigerian artist offered to stage a complimentary show in Burkina Faso. The event aimed to spread love and unity, but sources alleged that President Traoré declined, saying the country needed focus—not distractions.
The reports triggered mixed reactions online. While some fans praised Burna Boy’s generosity, others mocked him for what they called a public rejection.
Burna Boy didn’t stay silent.
He took to social media to address the backlash head-on, writing:
“I said I wanted to do a free show in Burkina Faso and while many people were positive about it, surprisingly, some morons said unbelievably negative things that left me in shock.”
He criticized those who made negative comments and questioned their right to judge him.
“You are not qualified to even speak my name if your only contribution to this world is typing dumb comments or talking into your cheap ring light and phone.”
Burna Boy also reminded the public of his long-standing record of humanitarian efforts across Africa. He made it clear that he gives back because he chooses to—not for praise or approval.
“I have nothing to gain from anybody and I don’t owe anyone anything. That has never stopped me from doing great work. My integrity is unquestionable,” he said. “So, burn in hell if you said anything negative.”
His bold response has reignited conversations online about celebrity generosity, public criticism, and the challenges African artists face when engaging with political and social issues.
