Nigerian rapper and activist Falz, also known as Folarin Falana, has openly voiced his concerns about raising his future children in Nigeria due to the country’s insecurity and the risks tied to his activism.
Falz on parenting
During a recent appearance on the Dear Ife Series Podcast, hosted by Ifedayo Agoro, Falz admitted he finds it difficult to imagine raising his kids in Nigeria. He cited the ongoing insecurity, economic instability, and the personal danger that comes with being vocal about social injustice as key reasons for his hesitation.
“That’s a deep question,” Falz said when asked if he would consider raising his children in Nigeria. “I haven’t really thought that far, but I can’t immediately say yes because of what we’re dealing with—the insecurity, the threats tied to my activism, and the way Nigerians stay silent in the face of it.”
Falz, best known for his hit song “Bop Daddy,” added that although he worries about the country’s current condition, he still believes in Nigeria’s potential for change.
“It’s sad, but I can’t outrightly say no either because I’m very pro-Nigerian, and I believe we can still get it right,” he said with a chuckle. “I don’t know—let’s see.”
The rapper, who remains unmarried and child-free, has built a strong reputation for speaking up against injustice. From playing a major role in the #EndSARS movement to consistently calling out government failures, Falz continues to use his platform to advocate for a better Nigeria.
