Waje Opens Up About the Magic Behind Her New Song “Lovey Lovey”

Nigerian music superstar Waje is back with another soulful tune, and this time, she’s letting fans in on the story behind it. During a recent chat with Max FM, she shared how her new single, Lovey Lovey,” came to life. A song she describes as a reflection of loyalty, love, and maybe, a little bit of cheekiness, depending on who’s listening.

Waje and KCee collaborate on new song Lovey Lovey about love and loyalty

Waje opens up about how her hit “Lovey Lovey” with KCee came together naturally.

According to Waje, the collaboration with KCee wasn’t something she planned. “It just happened naturally,” she said with a smile. She recalled meeting producer Playmetape at a product launch, where he expressed his desire to work with her. Curious, she invited him over to play a few tracks. Out of all the beats she heard, Lovey Lovey stood out with a smooth blend of Afro-fusion and hip-hop that instantly caught her ear.

After recording her verse, she decided the track needed another voice, someone who could bring a touch of highlife energy to it. Without much thought, she sent it over to KCee. To her surprise, he returned his verse within two days. What’s even more interesting? The two never spoke directly about doing a collaboration. “There was no conversation between us about it. It just flowed,” she said.

Waje added that she’s currently exploring fusion music, blending sounds and experimenting with genres that push her creativity. “I love trying new things,” she said. “Right now, I’m in my fusion era.”

With Lovey Lovey,” Waje once again proves her versatility  and her knack for making music that feels both spontaneous and deeply intentional.
