President Muhammadu Buhari receives FIFA Wold Cup Trophy

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, received the FIFA World Cup trophy at the State House ahead of the 2018 Football World Cup.

Having visited 30 countries since it began its globetrotting journey in January, the iconic trophy landed in Abuja and it was presented to the country’s head by Christian Karembeu.

The FIFA delegation was led by Peter Njonjo, president Coca-Cola West Africa as president Buhari was joined at the event by members of the Federal Executive council.

“I am proud to note that Nigeria is the first African country to qualify for the 2018 Fifa World Cup,” said president Buhari.

“The federal government will ensure that necessary support is given to facilitate preparations for successful participation of the Super-Eagles at the World Cup in Russia.”

The world famous solid-gold trophy that will be presented to the winning country of the 2018 Fifa World Cup will be up for public viewing at the Old Parade Ground, Garki on Thursday morning.

Over the next few months, the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola will visit no less than 30 cities across 19 countries before settling back in Russia for the tournament.

President Buhari also received the CHAN Super Eagles Team and Bobsleigh Winter Olympic Team. Also present were vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo minister of sports Solomon Dalung, FIFA representative France Christian Karembeu, president Coca-Cola West Africa Mr Peter Njonjo and chairman House committee on sports Hon. Godfrey Gaiya.

It is reported that the FIFA World Cup trophy finally arrived Nigeria for a four-day trophy-tour to two cities – Abuja and Lagos between March 7 and 10, 2018.

The most coveted prize in football landed in the country in a fully branded Coca Cola aircraft on Wednesday afternoon after making a quick two-day stop in Uganda.
