The Australian government has revoked American rapper Kanye West’s visa following the release of his controversial song titled “Heil Hitler.” Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said the song promotes Nazi ideology. He announced the decision on Tuesday.
West released the song in May, months after making antisemitic remarks on social media platform X. These included statements like “I love Hitler” and “I’m a Nazi.” Although these earlier comments did not affect his visa, the new song led officials to review his case again.
Minister Burke said West held a lower-level visa. But after reviewing the song’s content, the government took firm action.
“We won’t allow Australia to be a platform for Nazism or hate speech,” Burke told reporters.
“We already face many challenges without importing bigotry.”
West is married to Australian architect Bianca Censori and has visited the country often. Still, the government canceled his visa. Burke’s office did not reveal the exact date the cancellation took effect.
Kanye West’s visa cancellation fits a pattern of Australia banning controversial figures. Earlier this year, pro-Israel influencer Hillel Fuld was denied entry. In October, U.S. conservative commentator Candace Owens also faced a visa ban.
