Cobhams Asuquo: “I Work Five Times Harder Than My Colleagues Because I’m Blind.”
Award-winning Nigerian singer and producer Cobhams Asuquo has opened up about his journey as a blind musician, revealing that he puts in five times more effort than his peers to succeed in the music industry.

. “People naturally assume blindness means incapability, and I’ve made it my mission to prove them wrong.”
In a recent interview with Hip TV, the One Hit crooner got candid about living with blindness and how it fuels his work ethic. “Being aware of my condition as a blind person pushes me to work five times harder,” Cobhams said. “People naturally assume blindness means incapability, and I’ve made it my mission to prove them wrong.”
The renowned producer encouraged persons living with disabilities to embrace their reality rather than shy away from it. “It’s totally okay to be blind. The world might be more sensitive these days, but we must face our truth, not sugarcoat it,” he added.
Cobhams, who has consistently broken barriers in Nigeria’s music scene, stressed the importance of self-acceptance. “I’m not visually impaired. I am completely blind—I can’t see a thing—and that’s okay. I’ve found power in it. I’ve lived an amazing life and achieved so much, not despite my blindness, but with it.”
The music maestro also shared his perspective on language around disability. “We come up with all these names to feel better about it. But I believe in calling it what it is, owning it, and drawing strength from it,” he said.
Known for producing hit records and mentoring rising stars, Cobhams Asuquo continues to inspire many with his talent, resilience, and honesty. His story serves as a powerful reminder that disability is not inability—and that greatness often comes from embracing what makes us different.
