Afrobeats star Davido, also known as David Adeleke, has criticized Nigeria’s leadership, claiming that the country is under the “worst governments.” In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, the singer expressed his frustration with the country’s political leadership. However, he praised the role of Nigeria’s entertainment industry in reshaping the nation’s global image.
“I’m happy that entertainment switched the narrative. We Nigerians don’t have the best leaders. We have the worst governments,” Davido said. Despite this, he highlighted how Nigerian music and entertainment have boosted the country’s image worldwide.
According to Davido, the entertainment sector is also driving tourism to Nigeria. He noted, “Last December, there were more Americans than Nigerians in Lagos. I was like, what are you all doing here?”
He also pointed out the growing influence of Nigerian culture beyond music. At Paris Fashion Week, he observed that around 80% of the models and creative directors were African. “It’s impressive,” he added.
While Davido’s comments on Nigeria’s leadership are critical, he remains hopeful about the positive global influence of Nigerian entertainment. The rising popularity of Afrobeats and Nigerian culture continues to attract attention from around the world.
