Lyta Threatens to Quit Music Over Low Streams, Reveals Financial Struggles
Afrobeats singer and songwriter Lyta, whose real name is Babatunde Rahim, has expressed his frustration with the lack of support from his fans, threatening to stop releasing music unless his tracks begin to gain more attention. In a TikTok livestream, Lyta shared his financial struggles and admitted that he feels his hard work isnât being adequately supported by his fanbase.

âI can do more good music, but if you donât stream my music, I wonât drop another one. Iâm in need of money,â Lyta said, clearly frustrated. He jokingly added, âLook at how Iâm looking [slim]. I want to gain weight. Let me enjoy your money a little. If you stream my music, I will add weight.â His lighthearted remark about wanting to gain weight was an attempt to humorously highlight his struggles.
Lyta, who gained recognition after signing with YBNL Nation in 2018, parted ways with the label in May 2019 following a disagreement with Olamide. Since then, he has ventured into his own music career but seems to be facing significant challenges.
In December 2023, Lyta made a public plea for a potential re-signing with YBNL, but Olamide declined the offer. Reflecting on his past decision to leave the label, Lyta clarified, âI want to be back with YBNL. What I did back then [leaving YBNL Nation] wasnât intentional. I didnât hear from Olamide before leaving, and after I left, he just locked up. But Iâve spoken to him since leaving. I chatted with him via Instagram on his birthday, and he responded.â
While Lyta’s career continues to evolve, his recent statements underscore the pressures many independent artists face, especially in the competitive Afrobeats industry. Fans are encouraged to show their support by streaming his music, or risk losing the artist’s creative contributions altogether.
As Lyta’s next steps in his music career remain uncertain, itâs clear that heâs looking for a breakthroughâwhether through fan support, a major label partnership, or simply a shift in the industry.
