The Staple Center in Los Angeles held the memorial service for the late Eritrean-American rapper Nipsey Hussle. The event was live streamed and was attended by numbers of friends, family, and celebrities in the United States of America and people who couldn’t make it for one reason or the other sent in Condolence Messages. The celebration of life took place on Thursday, April 11, 2019, where celebrities and public figures turn up to eulogize the late rapper.
Former president of the United States of America, Barack Obama sent a condolence message which praised Hussle’s music and activism in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Crenshaw. Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam also delivered a powerful message.
Another huge moment of the day was when Nipsey Hussle’s longtime girlfriend, Lauren London took to the podium with his daughter Emani Asghedom, her son Cameron Carter, Hussle’s nephew Khalil Kimble and Hussle and London’s son Kross Asgehdom to deliver a very emotional tribute.
In her eulogy, London read a loving text message she wrote on Jan. 21 to her boyfriend, which she explained was written while Hussle was sleeping one morning. The copy of the text message was also featured in the funeral’s pamphlet.
“I want you to know I feel real joy in my heart when I’m around you. I feel safe around you. Protected. Like a shield over me when you’re around, I am totally myself when I’m with you,” London wrote. “You’ve made me into more of a woman. You’ve given me an opportunity to really love a man,” London who was dressed in all white with black sunglasses said.
After reading the text message, London went on and told the crowd,
“His soul was majestic. He was the strongest man that I ever knew. A gentle father, a patient leader, a divine light. He was brilliant. He researched everything, completely self-taught, constantly seeking knowledge.”
“Ermias, I’m in bed with you while you’re sleeping and I wanted to tell u something. I want you to know I feel real Joy in my heart when I’m around you. I feel safe around you. Protected. Like a shield over me when you’re around. I am totally myself with you (which is prob why I’m annoying) because i don’t wear a cool mask anymore lol.”
“You’ve made me into more of a woman. You’ve given me an opportunity to really love a man. You’ve been with me while I’ve been sick. Through my fears . U have encouraged me and inspired me to reach higher. I’ve learned so much more about myself with you. You’ve been my turn up and my church. I wouldn’t want to go thru this journey with anyone but you. I look up to you in a lot of ways and strive to educate myself more like you have. And when we’re at odds….i feel defeated and sad, knowing we are so much better than that.”
