Russia 5 Saudi Arabia 0: World Cup 2018

Russia hosts the 2018 World Cup and had their first match against Saudi Arabia which they performed amazingly well.

Following an opening ceremony by English singer Robbie Williams who officially opened the World Cup, Russia national team and Saudi were left to show to the World the excitement the World Cup brings.

Yuri Gazinskiy made history by scoring the first goal in the World Cup on a header 12 minutes in the game.

Russia gained confidence grew as the game came on. Russia’s second, third and fourth goals were all by substitutes: Dzageov’s replacement Denis Cheryshev doubled Russia’s advantage over Saudi with a fierce shot into the roof of the net – making it the second goal in the match few minutes before halftime.

Though Saudi improved in the second half of the game, it was very clear that they were no match for the Russian team.

Artem Dzyuba sealed all three points with 20 minutes left to play, heading the ball past Abdullah Al-Mayoof as Golovin picked up his second assist of the day.

It wasn’t over for Cheryshev who had the second goal in the match. He added another stunning goal in the 90th minute.

If that late goal seemed unfair to the Saudis, it got worse a moment later when Goliovin added No. 5 on a free kick in injury time.

Though hopes for the Russian team was not high based on their current football ranking was 70th in the World, this is definitely a perfect start for the host nation.

Russia faces Egypt on Tuesday evening before Saudi Arabia face Uruguay on Wednesday afternoon.
