Tems Makes History with Diamond Award at Billboard Global Power Players Event
Tems just made history again! The Grammy-winning Nigerian singer received the Diamond Award at Billboard’s Global Power Players event held on June 4, 2025, at Shoreditch House in East London.

Billboard honored Tems for her outstanding contributions to global music. Nkosiyati Khumalo, the incoming editor of Billboard Africa, proudly presented her with the award. This moment confirmed her status as the most-awarded African artist in Billboard history.
In her speech, Tems thanked Billboard for supporting African music and culture. “Being African and a musician is a whole new world,” she said. “Billboard has shown true support, and this means a lot, especially now that African music is reaching new global heights.”

The night also honored music legends. Sir Elton John received the Creators’ Champion Award, while EMPIRE founder Ghazi Shami won the Clive Davis Visionary Award. Nigerian rapper Olamide, CEO of YBNL, presented Ghazi’s award, representing the growing global influence of Afrobeats.
Billboard also launched its first-ever U.K. Power Players Chart, recognizing top music industry leaders shaping the British and international scenes.
Tems’ big win highlights the unstoppable rise of Afrobeats and her role as a global icon. From Lagos to London, she continues to break barriers and inspire fans around the world.
