Thierry Henry Crowned Igwe Of Football In Lagos

Former Arsenal and France innternational striker, Thierry Henry arrived Murtala Mohammed airport, Lagos on Sunday, December 17, 2017 for the 2-days Guiness promotional campaign.

Prior to this, Henry was crowned the ‘Igwe 1 of football” as he has been fondly referred to as by Nigerians since his hay days in the Premier League at the event on sunday.

The Frenchman was welcomed by football fans dorning the Arsenal jersey, the club where Henry made his name.

Henry is in Lagos to meet the ‘Be a Front Row Fan’ winners; a consumer promotion of Guiness also watched the West Brom vs Manchester United EPL game at Landmark Event Center, Victoria Island, Lagos.

After receiving the title, Henry revealed that Kanu Nwankwo, his one-time teammates at Arsenal never told him that they call him Igwe in Nigeria.

He spoke of his admiration for Kanu and Victor Ikpeba whom he played with at Monaco.

“Kanu was overrated, such a positive, fun and humble guy, his techniques were amazing,” Henry said at the event which held in Landmark Centre.

“Ikpeba was like a big brother to me in Monaco,” he added.

The 40-year-old Frenchman retired from football in 2014.
