Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reacted to his victory in the governorship election after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared him the winner. Adeleke secured a second term after polling 511,067 votes, while his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, recorded 327,985 votes.

However, the outcome has sparked further political discussions across the state. While Adeleke’s supporters have welcomed the result, opposition figures and other stakeholders have raised questions about the conduct of the election, including security and aspects of the electoral process.

Adeleke Reacts to Victory

Following his re-election, Adeleke thanked voters and supporters for backing his administration. He also outlined his expectations for the next phase of his government as he prepares to begin another four-year term.

Meanwhile, the governor has attracted criticism over his reported support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. Critics have questioned the decision, particularly because Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, remain political opponents of the ruling All Progressives Congress at the national level.

Nevertheless, Adeleke has continued to defend his political decisions. He has also rejected suggestions that his family is attempting to establish a political dynasty in Osun.

According to the governor, voters have repeatedly chosen members of his family because of their political appeal. Therefore, he argues that the electorate, rather than his family, determines who holds political office.

INEC Faces Fresh Questions

At the same time, INEC has come under renewed scrutiny following concerns raised by political stakeholders before and after the election.

Ahead of the poll, Adeleke’s campaign organization questioned aspects of INEC’s preparations, including the availability of election materials and the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS.

Furthermore, concerns over violence during the election have increased pressure on security agencies and electoral authorities. Lawmakers have subsequently called for greater accountability and a review of security arrangements for future elections.

The Osun APC has also indicated that it is reviewing the results before deciding on its next step.

Osun has a new chapter ahead. Adeleke celebrates his victory, while opposition voices continue to question aspects of the electoral process.

What Happens Next?

With INEC’s declaration now in place, attention will shift towards Adeleke’s second-term agenda and the response from opposition parties.

Ultimately, the governor will face pressure to turn his electoral victory into tangible improvements in education, infrastructure, employment, public services, business activity and the wider Osun economy.

At the same time, voters and political stakeholders will expect INEC and security agencies to address concerns raised during the election and strengthen public confidence in future polls.
