Chelsea defeat Liverpool 1-0 in Premier League

Chelsea on Sunday evening, May 6, defeated Liverpool 1-0 in a tough Premier League match to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the 2018/19 Champions League. The Blues started the match impressively knowing that a win will help them keep serious pressure on Tottenham who currently occupy fourth position on the League standings. Nigeria international Victor Moses had a great chance to net the first goal for the Blues in the 18th minute when he was set up by Fabregas, but he was unable to beat Loris Karius in goal for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah also had a chance in the 27th minute when he combined well with Sadio Mane, but his shot was blocked by Gary Cahill. Chelsea scored their goal in the 32nd minute through Frenchman Olivier Giroud who was superbly assisted by Super Eagles star Victor Moses. The visitors tried all they could to restore parity, but Chelsea defenders were strong as they clipped the wings of Firmino, Salah and Sadio Mane.

Chelsea won the match 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, but they are still occupying fifth position on the Premier League standings with 69 points with two games to end the season. The Blues still have a chance of winning a title this season, and that will be in the final of the 2017/18 English FA Cup where they will face Manchester United on May 19. Interestingly, Manchester United will also want to win the match as the Red Devils have not lifted any title this season.
