IF YOU DON’T BETTER YOURSELF, LIFE WILL NOT BETTER YOU-Small Doctor

On MaxFm Wetin Dey, May 31 2018, we had in the studio-Temitope Adekunle A.K.A Small Doctor , (self-acclaimed Akeweje Akinrele). The Penalty crooner has just released a new single “Remember” and he explains the inspiration behind the new song thus:

“I passed through my secondary school one day and began to feel nostalgic. As I recollected the memory of my days there, I realised I was starting to forget some of those times. So I took to my Instagram to ask my followers to suggest old rhymes to me”

This was on May 09. His followers responded and contributed to his composition of the single, “REMEMBER” which was released on May 30, 2018.

While on the show, the artiste revealed that he was once a bus conductor in the Agege-Ikeja area of Lagos State.

He further hustled as an okada rider in Lagos and so, when the Fashola led administration banned the use of motorcycles on Lagos road, it really destabilised things for him and he almost gave up. But instead of remaining pessimistic and disappointed, he remembered his mother’s encouragement.

“IF YOU DON’T BETTER YOURSELF, LIFE WILL NOT BETTER YOU”.

So he channeled that energy and time into his music; he resumed studio sessions which he barely had time for, hitherto.

When asked what inspired the stage name ‘Small Doctor’, he said:

“I like Doctor Who and I have small stature”

He went on to give credit to his mum who is the ‘iya teacher” in his “Penalty” song. He stated that although his dad also supports his music and is a private person, his mum has been a strong support and pillar for him. He said he is not in the industry to compete with anybody or outshine them but to make his mother proud.

When asked what his happiest moment was, he replied:

My happiest moment was when a certain telecommunication company came to my hood in Agege,Lagos and needed an artist to perform and almost everybody insisted that I should be the one to perform and represent the community.

He dropped a message to his fans.

Everybody should keep their head straight and remain humble, no matter the fame or wealth they later acquire. Always remember, don’t forget your root.

He hinted the release of his next album- “Fulfillment” which will drop anytime soon.
