MY SONG WAS INSPIRED BY THE BUSTLING OF LAGOS CITY – Soti

Written by on June 1, 2018

Nigerian Afro Pop/RnB singer and Songwriter, Soti was a guest on the MaxBreakfast show today, June 1 2018 .
The new act of the Effyzzie Music label who is influenced by the likes of Michael Jackson, Sade, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Brandy released her new single “Eko” on April 4 and shares the inspiration behind the song which she expects to be a Lagos Anthem soon. She explains:

” ‘Eko’ means Lagos and the song is about Lagos hustle. Lagos is a bustling place and has a lot of early risers. Unlike Abuja where I stayed most of my life and has a calm atmosphere and less stress, Lagos is more challenging and fun-you sleep, you wake up, you grind, you turn up. So, I did the song to chronicle the reality and lifestyle of Lagos. I worked with Kaystix on the track.”

When asked how she got into music she said:
I started singing in the Choir and did my first solo at age 7. I previously recorded a song with NaetoC when I was 15  and in the past, I did a cover for “Ohema” by Dj Spinall and for “Mad Over You” by Runtown. I also  worked with Ice Prince and recorded a track called “Boy” while in the University which I later dropped when I came back to Nigeria.
In May 2016, Soti who was reportedly scouted by Yemi Alade met the “Johnny” crooner in Abuja and shortly after, she signed a record  deal with Effyzzie Music Group.
Responding enthusiastically to the trending song by Falz- ”This is Nigeria”, Soti said:
“Falz shook a lot of tables, he broke the tables and even used the leg of the table to cook jollof rice. That song is so amazing and I love it.”
Finally concerning her colleagues in the Industry who are also coming up, she had this to say:
“I believe there’s so much space in the sky for everyone to  shine. I believe in me and I’m just doing me”
