Jennifer Lopez To Receive The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award

49 year old American singer, actress, dancer and producer, Jennifer Lopez, is currently in the best of moments as she has been announced as the recipient of the prestigious Michael Jackson video vanguard award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. She revealed the news live on MTV with Sway Calloway, followed by a Facebook Live interview on MTV’s official page.

The award, which has been passed out since the inaugural edition, is given to music performers or directors with renowned accomplishments in music and film and it’s past recipients include influential acts such as Madonna, Britney Spears, David Bowie, Pink in 2017, Rihanna in 2016, Kanye West in 2015 and Beyoncé in 2014.

Lopez’ career spans over two decades, she has sold 80 million records worldwide, 40 million albums, had 16 top 10 hit songs, three No.1 albums and is the first woman to have a number one album and film in the same week. She has also been heavily involved in humanitarian work, particularly after natural disasters. After Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, Jennifer Lopez and her partner, Alex Rodriguez donated $1 million to humanitarian aid for Puerto Rico and helped launch a humanitarian relief campaign called Somos Una Voz.

This year, Lopez is nominated in two VMA categories – Best Collaboration and Best Latin – for her “Dinero” video, which featured Cardi B and DJ Khaled. In addition to the award, she is also going to perform live at this year’s show for the first time since 2001.
