For many Nigerians living abroad, nothing compares to a plate of home-cooked jollof rice, pounded yam, or egusi soup. Interestingly, global superstar Wizkid feels exactly the same.
The Grammy-winning singer recently revealed that while living in Los Angeles, he spent between $300 and $400 every day just to enjoy authentic Nigerian meals. Although the amount surprised many fans, Wizkid explained that his love for Nigerian cuisine made every dollar worthwhile.
According to Wizkid, Nigerian food remains his favourite, regardless of where he finds himself in the world. However, authentic Nigerian meals were difficult to find in Los Angeles. Therefore, he hired a personal chef to prepare his meals every day.
At first, the arrangement seemed like the perfect solution. However, it soon became frustrating.
The Starboy singer explained that the chef cooked only once a day and prepared just two servings. As a result, Wizkid did not always have access to freshly cooked meals whenever he wanted them. Eventually, the limited arrangement no longer met his expectations.
His story quickly resonated with many Nigerians, especially those living abroad. After all, many people understand how difficult it can be to find authentic local dishes outside Nigeria.
