Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been found guilty in the case surrounding Tupac Shakur’s death.
Duane “Keffe D” Davis, a former Los Angeles gang leader, has been found guilty of the 1996 murder of chart-topping rapper Tupac Shakur by a Las Vegas court.
Thirty years after the death of the hip-hop icon, the jury reached its verdict on Monday after just a few hours of deliberation. Davis, 63, now faces the possibility of life in prison without parole.
After the verdict, Davis addressed Judge Carli Kierny and made it clear he intends to appeal.
Prosecutors accused Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, of ordering the September 7, 1996, shooting that claimed Shakur’s life. According to the case presented in court, the alleged motive stemmed from an earlier confrontation at a Las Vegas casino, where members of Shakur’s entourage had beaten Davis’s nephew.
Meanwhile, Shakur had travelled to Las Vegas to attend a heavyweight boxing match featuring Mike Tyson. However, the night took a tragic turn just hours after the casino confrontation.
As Shakur travelled through Las Vegas in the front passenger seat of a BMW, a white Cadillac reportedly pulled alongside the vehicle at a red light. A gunman then opened fire, striking the rapper.

The shooting left Shakur critically injured, and he died several days later from his injuries.
For decades, the murder remained one of hip-hop’s most closely watched unsolved cases. Now, Davis’s conviction marks a major development in a case that has continued to generate questions and debate across the music world.
However, with Davis signalling plans to appeal, the legal chapter surrounding Shakur’s death is not necessarily over.
