Timaya Speaks on Burna Boy & Sophia’s Lamborghini Drama: “These Things Happen”

Nigerian singer Timaya has jumped into the Burna Boy and Sophia Egbueje saga, defending Burna Boy in the now-viral “sex-for-Lambo” controversy that shook social media in February 2025.

It’s the same car issue I had with Empress Njamah that Burna Boy is having now,” Timaya said. “Back then, I gave her money to buy a car. She didn’t buy it and kept using my car without returning my money.

While speaking on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, Timaya shared his thoughts on the trending issue, even drawing a comparison to his past experience with Nollywood actress Empress Njamah

In February, Sophia Egbueje claimed in a leaked voice note that her friend Ama Reginald and Burna Boy’s associate Manny convinced her to meet up with the superstar, who allegedly promised her a Lamborghini. According to her, Burna Boy didn’t keep the promise, though she later bought the car herself.

Timaya questioned the outrage over Burna Boy’s alleged refusal to buy the luxury car and urged Nigerians to calm down.

“Did Burna Boy say he won’t buy the car? No, he didn’t,” he stated. “Even when we ask God for things, He doesn’t always give them immediately—how much more a human being?”

He emphasized that situations like these are common in the entertainment industry and encouraged fans not to overreact.

With his candid and humorous take, Timaya added a fresh perspective to the Burna Boy vs. Sophia drama and reminded fans that not every viral moment tells the full story.
