Qing Madi Speaks Out: “The Nigerian Music Industry Is So Dark”
Fast-rising Afrobeats sensation, Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma, popularly known by her stage name Qing Madi, has sparked fresh conversation about the inner workings of the Nigerian music industry, calling it “so dark” in a recent post on her Instagram Story.
The 18-year-old singer’s candid comment adds her voice to a growing number of artists who have expressed unease about the industry’s behind-the-scenes dynamics. Qing Madi wrote plainly: “The industry is so dark,” echoing the sentiments of fellow artists who have alluded to spiritual and systemic challenges in the music scene.
Her statement aligns with recent claims by Reekado Banks, who alleged that a “demonic” music executive is actively working to undermine emerging talents in Nigeria. Similarly, Kizz Daniel once described the industry as a “cartel” run by a powerful “cabal,” pointing to long-standing concerns about gatekeeping and manipulation within the entertainment space.
Qing Madi has not shied away from controversy. In 2024, she revealed that she lost a significant number of social media followers after openly sharing her Christian faith and preaching about Jesus Christ online. Despite the backlash, she affirmed she had no regrets, standing firm in her beliefs.
As the Afrobeats genre continues to dominate the global stage, these allegations are raising important questions about what lies beneath the surface of its success.
Are Nigerian artists facing spiritual warfare, systemic sabotage, or both? The conversation is far from over.
