Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has been questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding allegations of currency abuse during her daughter’s wedding. The ceremony, held on April 17, 2025, saw Priscilla Ojo marry Tanzanian singer Jux in a grand celebration in Nigeria. The couple had already tied the knot in an Islamic ceremony in Tanzania earlier that year, in February.
EFCC Questions Actress Iyabo Ojo Over Currency Abuse
The wedding quickly went viral, with both Nigerian and international celebrities attending. However, the celebration sparked controversy after videos showed guests spraying dollar bills and Naira notes on the newlyweds, raising concerns about potential currency abuse.
To address the growing speculations, Iyabo Ojo shared her side of the story. She explained that the EFCC had invited her for questioning, and she cooperated fully.
In a post on Instagram, Ojo detailed her experience:
“I was asked questions about my personal biodata, career, work experience, and my companies, among other things,” she wrote. “They also asked if I knew this was illegal. I explained that I only thought mutilating or abusing Naira was an offense.”
Ojo also revealed her surprise when the EFCC informed her that spraying any form of currency, including dollars, is illegal. The EFCC has since clarified that spraying money on people is prohibited, as it constitutes currency abuse.
Although spraying money is a common cultural practice at Nigerian events, the EFCC’s investigation highlights a growing effort to curb misuse of both Naira and foreign currencies. This incident has sparked a wider conversation about the legal implications of such traditions.
