‘I am president, coach and player’ – Ibrahimovic says Milan would win Scudetto if they signed him earlier

Written by on July 8, 2020

AC Milan striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is known for his cheeky comments and now the Swede has made a huge claim, revealing that the club would have won the Serie A had they signed him at the start of the season.

The 38-year-old got on the scoresheet as Milan registered a famous comeback win to beat defending champions, Juventus 4-2 in the league on Tuesday thereby ending their 11-game winless streak against their rivals.

Ibrahimovic returned to Milan only as a free agent in January, with the club desperate to bring him considering that he led them to their last Scudetto in 2011 and he has been impressive on the pitch, scoring five goals in 11 Serie A appearances so far.

“If I was here from the beginning of the season, we would have won the Scudetto! I am president, coach and player, but they only pay me as a footballer,” he said post the game.

Sweden’s all-time goalscorer’s contract with the club comes to an end in the summer and there is growing speculation that he might not agree to new terms despite the management wanting him to stay at the San Siro.

“There is still a month, so let’s see. There are things that we cannot in control. Playing without fans is a pity, a strange situation. We do our job, we are professionals. It could have been the last time they have seen me live in San Siro,” he added.

Courtesy of the win on the night, Milan moved to fifth in the league table with 49 points from 31 games, though a finish in the top four looks unlikely considering that they trail fourth-placed, Atlanta by 14 points.
