Special Spesh shades Tyla as he reacts to his Davido’s loss at the Grammys

Special Spesh, Davido’s hypeman, responded to Davido’s loss at the Grammys. The 66th Academy Awards, held on Sunday, February 4th at the Crypto Com Arena, saw Davido losing in three categories: Best Global Music Performance, Album of the Year, and Best African Music Performance.

Davido’s track “Unavailable” faced defeat, losing to fast-rising artist Tyla, whose song “Water” clinched the Best African Music Performance title. Expressing his sentiments, Special Spesh, taking to Instagram, used Tyla’s victory to throw shade. He voiced his refusal to grant supremacy to what he labeled as “dùmb Afrobeats or any Afro-fusion or anything African.”

He observed the tendency of Americans to assert control when things gain massive attention. In a subtle dig at “Water,” he highlighted how a song centered on squirting surpassed Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake’s contributions.

The Grammy loss, according to Special Spesh, reflects the intricate dynamics where certain genres or themes might take precedence in global recognition, despite the undeniable influence of Afro-centric music.

“We won’t give you the power to dùmb Afrobeats down or Afro-fusion or anything African.

That’s (White) Americans problem! When things start to take over and get massive they always want a part, then try to have a say then try to control”.

Despite losing his Grammy bid, Davido finds gratitude in the nomination.

Only days ago, it was reported that he secured another triumph with his feature on Kizz Daniel’s “Twe Twe” remix.

Unsurprisingly, the song is creating waves, breaking records as the fastest Afrobeats track to exceed 100,000 Shazams in just seven days.

In October, Atlanta and Georgia bestowed honors upon Davido, dedicating a ‘Day’ to him. November 18th, 2023, was officially declared as Davido’s Day in Atlanta, and Fulton County, Georgia marked November 21st, 2023, as Davido Appreciation Day.

Adding to his accolades, the Georgia State Assembly recognized Davido as an “Outstanding Georgia citizen.”

Recently, Davido delivered a message to naysayers and those who doubted him. The Afrobeat sensation cautioned his critics not to toy with fate. He recounted his victories, highlighting how people once mocked him for lacking a Grammy nomination—now he has it and much more.
