Ayra Starr Makes History as First African Female Artist to Hit 5 Million Spotify Followers

Award-winning Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has set a new milestone by becoming the first African female artist to reach 5 million followers on Spotify.

With over 2.7 billion total streams across all her credits, Ayra Starr’s breakout track “Santa” alone has surpassed 707 million streams. Her popular single “Rush” also continues to gain traction, amassing more than 474 million streams. Despite this impressive feat, she still trails fellow Nigerian star Tems, who leads with 3.8 billion streams, making her the most streamed African female artist on the platform.

In February 2025, Spotify recognized Ayra Starr as the top artist on its prestigious Global Impact List. This honor reflects her rising influence in the music industry, with “Santa” ranking among the top 30 Nigerian songs globally.

The list also features notable artists like Tems, Burna Boy, and international stars Rauw Alejandro and Giveon, showcasing the growing impact of African music worldwide.
