Mayorkun Opens Up About His DMW Exit

By: Gladius Elizabeth

Mayorkun speaking about his DMW exit and music choices during an interview.

Mayorkun reflects on his DMW exit and the growth that followed.

When fans talk about bold career moves, they often circle back to Mayorkun. This time, he set the record straight about why he left Davido Music Worldwide in 2020. According to him, the decision had nothing to do with bad blood. Instead, it came down to growth, honesty, and standing by his personal taste in music.

Why Mayorkun Chose Growth Over Comfort

First of all, Mayorkun explained that artists eventually reach a point where they crave independence. He appreciated the platform DMW gave him, and he has said that repeatedly. However, he also wanted to test himself outside the label structure. As a result, he stepped out on his own terms.

Interestingly, he revealed another layer to the story. During an interview conversation, he openly picked “Made in Lagos”  by Burna Boy as his album of the year over a project from Davido. Although some fans raised their eyebrows, Mayorkun stood firm. He chose what genuinely resonated with him.

Mayorkun and the Power of Honest Opinions

Moreover, Mayorkun believes artists should speak freely about music they love. He respects Davido and credits him for major milestones. Nevertheless, he refuses to fake loyalty when it comes to artistic preference. In his view, authenticity builds stronger careers than silent agreement.

Ultimately, Mayorkun’s journey reminds us that growth sometimes requires tough conversations. So, what do you think about his choice?  Tune in to Max FM, join the conversation, and stay locked in for more celebrity lifestyle updates and radio exclusives.
