BAD FUEL SITUATION IN NIGERIA

Through speculations, it has been gathered that the bad fuel situation in recent time is as a result of the bad fuel that went into circulation.

The bad quality fuel was noticed a week ago as long queues causing heavy traffic became the order of the day, commercial transporters increased fare rates and many automobiles knocked engines in Abuja, Awka in Anambra State, Lagos and other parts of the nation.

A fuel attendant was seen selling the fuel in a transparent container and it appeared that the fuel was dark brown in colour.

It also revealed that relevant authorities who got to know about the development decided to stop or reduce distribution for proper Investigation.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA is supposed to be the watchdog in the sector under the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA. Where is the agency? It has something to tell Nigerians.

“Consequently, Mr President approved the appointment of Mr Farouk Ahmed as the Authority Chief Executive of the NMDPRA as conveyed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva to run the day-to-day affairs of the new regulatory authority.

In other words, The Authority is responsible for the regulation of the midstream and downstream petroleum operations in Nigeria which includes technical, operational, and commercial activities
