Mayorkun Speaks On His Concert And The Report Of Condoms And Violence

DMW’s Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun held a concert in the city of Ibadan, Nigeria on Saturday July 21st. The concert, which is reported to have sold out, saw performances by his colleagues in the industry, such as Dremo, Peruzzi, Davido, Idowest, Small Doctor, and Ichaba.

Reports, however have it that the organizers of the concert, with the support of relevant organisations, distributed packs of condoms freely and “were seen littering the event ground afterwards”

In a recent tweet, Mayorkun, 22, has come out to clear the air, saying that the act was for reproductive and family health awareness and to encourage safe sex. He said:

“And as regards condoms everywhere, apparently there was a sex awareness program going on in the mall.”

Regarding the turnout at the concert, Mayorkun says:

“So iPlanned to see 5000 to 7000 people yesterday but iWas shocked to see 13,000 people…The entrance planned for me to use was already jam-packed, Had to go beg the mall to open the back gate for limited cars to come in.”

He rounded up with “ALL IN ALL!!! IBADAN THANK YOU!!! WAS A GREAT SHOW!!! iHAD FUN!!!”

In response to the rumors that the show recorded some form of violence probably due to the massive turn out at the event, the production team have said that

“the concert was very well managed with experienced security officials in place, despite the over 13,000 people in attendance. So, we will like to disassociate ourselves from news going round of violence against some persons as no such thing happened at the event. It was a free and fair event.”

Concerning reports that journalists were maltreated by security officials, they refuted:

“Adequate securities were made for all media houses and journalists with access tags at the event, and no violence was experienced by any journalist or pressman at the event.
The ‘all access’ tags were given only to authorized journalists and photographers.”

A certain aggrieved reporter who was allegedly drunk attempted to forcibly gain entrance into the artistes’ green room without authorized access and was prevented by security operatives. The report by this reporter is a calculated attempt to bring the event into disrepute.
