Mercy Eke said that why she doesn’t feel ashame of her accent is because most of the people that criticize her Igbotic accent sound horrible in their own fake accents.

Former Big Brother Naija season 4 Pepper Dem reality television star, and show winner, Mercy Chinenyenwa Eke has reacted during an interview, about the criticisms she gets from people concerning her accent.

Mercy Eke, who hails from Imo State, Nigeria, states that she never felt bad about people’s opinions over how she speaks, because most of the ladies who form foreign accents sound horrible.

And when they sound like that, do you expect her to form what she’s not good at? It’s better she sounds original than horrible, with fake British or American accents.

Mercy’s reaction over this came during her recent interview with podcaster, Temisan Emmanuel, on Tea With Tay podcast.

Temisan, while asking Mercy how she feels about the criticisms over her accent said; “As you’re aware, you’re a babe, you came to Lagos, you have your accent, you’re still that girl right and you’re mixing in this space where all the girls are a bit expressive and you roll in a circle where everybody probably has an accent from the UK or America.

“But you still manage to shine and stand out right regardless. Don’t you ever feel intimidated by these other girls, don’t you sometimes want to try and change or pretend?”

Then, Mercy Eke replied, “I’ve never felt that way. And I don’t think anybody can intimidate me with their accents. Most of these girls, apart from proper London girls, they sound horrible with their accents. They don’t know.

“Exactly, why would I want to feel intimidated when some of them can’t pronounce well while speaking.

Cutting her short, the interviewer, Temisan asked, “So, you know some of them that sound terrible?”. Mercy answered, “Yes, I’ll be like, you want it trick me with your accent. I’m in my originality. You… You can’t even… like, Majority of them, yeah”.
